Born and raised in Hawaii, Chris Gutzeit is a painter, sculptor and multi-media artist represented by Chrystiana Sailer - Artist’s Montage (Hawaii). His newest creations are a series of multi-dimensional works that will have their first exhibition at the new Endangered Planet Gallery in Laguna Beach, California, in conjunction with the gallery’s grand opening on Thursday, January 5, 2006. Utilizing reflective glass and lights, and a variety of sculpted shapes, the new works almost defy categorization. The combination of Chinese characters (for such concepts as “peace,” “endangered planet” and others) located inside enclosures with interior lights and mirrors produces an infinite view, resulting in works of remarkable depth and feeling. Several of the works are surface-mounted, appearing to go deep within the wall; others are tabletop designs, with infinite views from both sides.
