LAGUNA BEACH, CA -
Long fascinated by the tension between man and machine,
Momen uses geometric shapes to depict a universe of balanced
and unbalanced forces.
Endangered Planet Gallery and Marion Meyer Contemporary Art gallery are joining forces in October and November to bring an exciting two-gallery exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Karl Momen to Laguna Beach. The two-month celebration of artworks by the 72-year-old Swedish abstract master will include a public speaking event by Momen at The Laguna Playhouse, on Saturday, October 14, at 10:30 a.m., and a reception for the artist at each of the two galleries. All three events are free and open to the public.
A solo exhibition of new Momen paintings will open October 2 at Endangered Planet Gallery, with a reception for the artist on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4:00 p.m. The nine new paintings, all created in 2006 especially for the exhibition, reflect Momen s concepts and ideas relating to Endangered Planet s mission of protecting the planet and focusing attention on environmental and ecological concerns. The Momen show will continue at the gallery until December 3.
As a sculptor, Momen is best known in the U.S. for his monumental Metaphor: The Tree of Utah sculpture that rises 87 feet above the Bonneville Salt Flats. This epic work of art, visible for dozens of miles, is seen by millions of Americans and tourists each year.
