Mark Dubovoy has nurtured an indelible passion for Photography since he was a young child. Today he is considered by many to be one of the finest living landscape photographers. His breathtaking images are the unique culmination of impeccable aesthetics, a deep love for the landscape and flawless technique.
Uniquely, he began his work in the darkroom, and a number of years passed before he made his first exposure. His early love of the darkroom, combined with a long-term career in science and technology, are clearly evident in his work. He is a master printer in many traditional and digital methods and considers printing an integral part of the creative process. He has many years of experience printing Dye Transfer, silver gelatin, platinum, Chromogenic, Ilfochrome and pigmented ink prints. He is also one of only a handful of practitioners that have the knowledge and expertise to make four-layer Carbon Pigment prints by hand.
His early work was in black and white, starting in a photojournalism tradition with 35 mm. cameras. He slowly moved to medium format and then to 4x5 and 8x10 inch large format. He shoots almost exclusively in color. He continues to use a view camera, but has transitioned to digital capture using a Phase One digital back.
His love of the technical aspects of the craft of photography is only exceeded by his passion to reveal and document the landscape, the extreme beauty of simple objects and the personalities and life of wild animals.
Over the last two decades he has focused mostly on the American landscape, although recently he has been spending time in Africa and Antarctica.
Form an aesthetic point of view; his work can only be described as a harmonious fusion of art and science.
